Abstract

The central nervous system (CNS, brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system (PNS, ganglia and nerves) together control somatic (sensorimotor or voluntary) and autonomic (involuntary) functions. The CNS is anatomically and functionally the major body system that varies most between rodents and humans. Chapter 20, In: Treuting PM, Dintzis SM, Montine KS, eds.
